How does a hybrid photovoltaic installation work?

When the energy generated is insufficient and the batteries begin to discharge, the system detects this and automatically starts the micro turbine. In this way, both the photovoltaic panels and the micro hydro turbine charge the same battery bank.
When the batteries are charged again, the system detects it and automatically stops the micro turbine. In this way, it is possible to extend the useful life of the equipment over time.
In addition, there is the possibility of equipping the installation with a diesel generator to make it safer. This generator only starts in cases of emergency or when maintenance work is carried out.
Advantages of hybrid photovoltaic installations
Hybrid installations have some advantages over traditional isolated photovoltaic installations.
- Availability of energy at any time; Although the solar panels are insufficient or at night, the micro hydro turbine is available that can generate energy 24 hours a day.
- Minimum storage capacity in batteries; In a hybrid installation, as energy is available 24 hours a day thanks to the micro hydraulic turbine, it is not necessary to install banks of batteries so large that if you install only an independent photovoltaic installation.
- Low maintenance; Many elements of the installation are common, such as batteries and inverters, so the use of hybrid systems has a maintenance similar to that of a photovoltaic installation.
- Works in the most remote areas; Hybrid installations are great for rural areas with difficult access to the electricity grid, where using a traditional connection is very expensive and unfeasible.
